Bye Bye Bama: Gottfried out

Alabama is looking for a new head coach.

After 11 seasons as the head coach at Alabama, Mark Gottfried has resigned from his position, according to multiple reports.

Philip Pearson will take over for Alabama (12-7, 2-3 SEC). Gottfried is the first of what will likely be many job openings in the Southeast this year.

"It has been a wonderful decade for me and my family, and I love the University of Alabama, but I feel that it is in the best interests of everyone involved," Gottfried said in a statement released by the university.

Names already mentioned for the job are Mike Anderson (Missouri), Anthony Grant (Virginia Commonwealth) and Tubby Smith (Minnesota). UAB head coach Mike Davis will likely push for the job but sources say Alabama is not keen to the idea at the moment.
